As a user or customer of the Tasmanian Electronic Commerce Centre (TECC) we guarantee to provide total commitment to your privacy. Following is important information about the privacy protections the TECC extends to your personal information. It relates to personal information that you provide the TECC through the use of this web site.

It also includes data and information stored within our electronic Customer Relations Management System (eCRMS) and traditional paper files.

 

These guidelines have been developed with the recognition that Internet technologies are rapidly evolving, and that underlying business models are still being established. Accordingly, guidelines are subject to change. Any such changes will be posted on this page. If the changes represent a material departure from our current practices with respect to the use of personal information, the changes will be posted on this page thirty days prior to taking effect and registered users will be notified via email.

1. How we collect your personal information.

Apart from the entry of required information for registration, the TECC collects your personal information in a number of ways, primarily:

·       from the personal data entered by you on our web site (e.g. during registration or application for trading subscriptions or services) or alternatively when you provide information in documents such as registration or application forms

·         from the TECC’s commercial partners and other third parties

·         from publicly available sources of information, e.g. The Australian Business Register or Dun & Bradstreet Verification Service.

 

2. How we use and to whom we disclose your information.

Your personal information may be used to:

·         provide the services you require.

·         administer and manage those services, including invoicing

·         identify you and verify business credentials

·         inform you of service interruptions and improvements

·         gain a better understanding of your needs, allowing the TECC to improve the services we offer.

In the course of doing business we outsource certain tasks and services to commercial partners and other third parties. In these circumstances we may disclose your personal information in order to provide you with the products and services you request.

 

3. Ensuring data quality: that your information is accurate and up-to-date.

We aim to ensure that the personal information we retain about you is accurate, complete and up-to-date. The personal information details we collect from you will depend on which TECC service you nominate during the registration process via an application for product or services.

 

By registering for online services, you have the right to access and edit your personal details. Logging on as a registered user, using your username and password provides access to easily update this information.

 

4. Protecting your personal information through adequate security.

The TECC cannot guarantee that data transmissions over the Internet are always going to be 100% secure. However once we receive your transmission, the TECC will take reasonable steps to ensure that your personal information (both electronic and paper) is stored securely.

 

Closing your browser when you have finished your viewing or transaction processes, and not disclosing your username, password and/or security key to any other users assists in maintaining security.

 

5. The TECC’s openness, through publishing policy and guidelines, in dealing with customer information.

It is the policy of the TECC to be open in its information handling practices, through statements on policy and appropriate contact and communications channels.

On receipt of a written request, and appropriate verification of identity, the TECC will make available personal information being held about you or your company.

6. Providing you access to your information and the ability to correct it online.

You have the right to access your personal information. This information can be accessed online by logging in and using your username and password. Once online you have the ability to edit and amend your details.

 

The TECC does not require you to provide a reason when requesting access to your personal information, however we may ask whether you want all information or particular sections. This may save us some time in meeting your request.

 

The TECC does follow procedure to attempt to validate your identity or the identity of your nominated intermediary. This is to avoid the risk of providing your information to another unauthorised individual.

 

7. The identifier the TECC uses to uniquely distinguish your personal information,

The TECC assigns a unique identifier to individuals and organisations registered to use a TECC product and/or service. This identifier is assigned by the TECC and is not linked in any way to identifiers assigned by other government agencies or organisations.

 

8. The ability, where practicable, to allow anonymous access to TECC information

When initially contacting the TECC to request information on our products and services and make general enquiries, you have the right to protect your identity.

 

It is however practical and a requirement for the TECC to collect personal information if the required product or service is to be delivered.

 

9. Situations in which the TECC may allow the transfer of data to users outside Australia.

The products and services the TECC provide are often Internet-based, which may provide users outside Australia access to some of your personal or company details. For example a registered international marketplace buyer may have access to your company contact details, phone fax and email.


As with all third parties, users outside of Australia are bound by the TECC’s End User Agreement  that considers the accuracy of material and use of data.


10. The collection of sensitive information, when applicable.

The TECC does not currently collect or store information which is classified as ’sensitive‘, e.g. health information. In the event that you disclose sensitive information, the TECC undertakes to not disclose the information provided without your consent.
