Strong Cloud adoption could add $3.25bn a year to economy: KPMG Report

A new KPMG report says that strong adopting of cloud computing model by business could bolster the Australian economy by $3.32 billion per year. The report was commissioned by the Australia Information Industry Association (AIIA) and launched by Communications Minister, Senator Stephen Conroy, in Sydney.
According to the report, Modelling the Economic Impact of Cloud Computing, the adoption of cloud services across 75 per cent of ICT spending would result in an increase in long-run GDP after 10 years of $3.32 billion per annum. At 50 per cent adoption levels, the GDP gain is $2.16 billion per annum.
Solme the key insights from the report include:
- More mature markets such as the USA suggest the adoption of cloud platforms is likely to be between 50 and 75 percent of relevant ICT requirements.
- At 75 percent adoption, and based on current Australian GDP, this would result in opex and capex savings of 25 percent and 50 percent respectively.
- After 10 years, this would result in an increase in long-run GDP of A$3.32 billion per annum.
- At 50 percent adoption levels, the GDP gain is A$2.16 billion per annum.
