The Federal government has scheduled the introduction of Digital Television in Australia on a progressive rolling basis across the nation starting in 2010.

Digital TV is simply a better way of broadcasting and receiving television signals. Digital TV offers superior picture and sound quality, widescreen pictures and a greater channel selection.

The cutover from analogue TV to Digital TV in Tasmania is planned for 2013 in Hobart, Launceston and King Island. To assist consumers and electrical retailers, the Federal government has established a website

where FAQ’s, information updates and detailed maps about the planned introduction of Digital TV will be placed by the Digital Switchover Taskforce.

Information about Digital TV can also be accessed from the following websites:

FreeTV Australia, an industry association and  ACMA, the regulator of Australian broadcasting, internet, radiocommunications and telecommunications.
