The American Consumer Institute has released a study examining the potential economic and environmental benefits to the environment  by reducing greenhouse gas emissions, through greater utilisation of broadband. The study can be viewed here.  This study provide an interesting view about the potential benefits that may be applicable to Australia under the NBN roll out.

 Mobile commerce has taken off at an astounding rate in Australia. In the last year alone, PayPal Australia’s mobile Total Payment Volume grew 14 fold to reach $42 million. Having published a forecast of $35 million in October 2010, the value of transactions going through mobile surpassed even our own expectations and PayPal enjoyed a 25 per cent month on month growth in total payment volume in 2010.

The accompanying report by PayPal shows the rate of innovation and the challenges confronting retailers in Australia, given the huge uptake of smart phones in this country. The report can be viewed here.

NBNCo Community Information Session – George Town

The NBN is going to change the way we communicate with each other and the world. George Town has been included in Stage Two of the National Broadband Network rollout and construction will be commencing soon. The sessions are really informal with the doors being thrown open to members of the  community to come along have a cup of tea ask the burning questions regarding the network, construction or what they can expect from the network when it is installed.  To find out what exciting benefits fibre optic broadband will bring to the George Town community, come and visit the  information session any time between 10am–1pm on Saturday 24 September 2011 at the following venue:
