World-First Sensor Network Announced for Tasmania

Posted February 23, 2012 at 3:51 pm

The Minister for Regional Australia, Regional Development and Local Government, Simon Crean and Premier Lara Giddings today announced a contribution of $3.6 million towards the Sensing Tasmania (SenseT) Program, as part of the Tasmanian Forests Intergovernmental Agreement between the Australian and Tasmanian governments.

SenseT will be a $40 million program over five years with support from the University of Tasmania, CSIRO and the Tasmanian Government, making it one of the biggest investments in next-generation infrastructure for Tasmania.

It will allow farmers to monitor the microclimate, not only in their region, but on their own property, along with the ability to precisely control irrigation and other crop management accordingly. The full press release from the Tasmanian government can be viewed here.
