John McCann CEO
John McCann (centre talking with Senator Stephen Conroy) is the founding CEO of the Tasmanian Electronic Commerce Centre Pty Ltd, an organisation established in 1997 with Networking the Nation funding to assist SME’s in the regional setting take advantage of the opportunities offered by electronic commerce. TECC also managed the nation’s leading innovative regional Broadband Development Fund, the BDF.
During that time the TECC has managed over 200 key enterprise and sector projects and developed a suite of products to enable SME’s to progress through the EC development path. John is also a Director of the Australian Electronic Commerce Centre, In-tellinc BITS Incubator, and the Digital Futures Forum and has previously been a director of the Tasmania Chamber of Commerce and Industry, EC Enable and Tasmania Business Online
Recently John has been pursuing opportunities for digital development through activities such as the rollout of broadband infrastructure, including the fibre optic to the premises TasCOLT deployment, and developing the potential of emerging industries such as creative new media and new generation information based businesses. John has also maintained a strong involvement in the transformation and evolution of traditional businesses that gain access to broadband to enable digital technology and services.
John is recognised as a strong advocate for regional development and
regeneration, underpinned by new generation technology and communication and information infrastructure.
Current projects that John has led the TECC to develop include the successful deployment of FTTP trial (TasCOLT) and the Hobart Wireless Waterfront Project.
Prior to TECC, John had 12 years experience in a range of strategy, policy, development and consultancy roles with a national business group.
